When you've been in ministry as long as I have (since 1976, starting out in Sacramento) and at the same church (since 1978), God gives you a different perspective on life. During the first 20 years I was more motivated by my personal ambitions to build a high-profile, huge predominantly AsiAm church. But the last 10+ years I have been moved to die to my ambitions and to boldly try and 're-boot' our concept of being Christians and of being the Church. This is how I understand my part of The Heroes' Journey. I know I couldn't have gone after this when I was younger. My need to please people was still too great and I lacked the resolve and courage from Jesus. But now, as I start towards serving my fourth decade here at EBCLA, I am much more focused on the finish line and much more grateful for those who are on this journey with me.
